Frank J. Gonynor is a Senior Claims Advisor and Legal Advisor with Gard (North America) Inc., located in New York City, after previously working in the marine casualty and environmental claims section of Gard AS, in the Arendal, Norway headquarters. Frank currently works at Gard on marine casualty cases, as well as offshore energy claims and charterer/trader issues.
Gard is a major marine and energy underwriter, with worldwide coverage, and is a member of the International Group of Protection and Indemnity Clubs.
In his work at Gard, his specialty is marine casualty handling with an emphasis on environmental claims. He has worked on-scene at numerous marine incidents in his career, not only in the U.S., but in Mexico, Spain, Norway, Italy, Argentina, Brazil, and other locations. He is also involved in marine casualty response planning and preparation, and also participates and/or organizes drill exercise programs.
He is a maritime lawyer, and before joining Gard, functioned as a legal correspondent in the Houston area, for Gard and most of the other IG Clubs, for 24+ years. He is a Proctor member of the Maritime Law Association of the United States, and served as an adjunct professor of law at the University of Houston Law Center.
